about

SustainLex is a community gathering aimed at addressing the issue of environmental sustainability in the city of Lexington. We will be bringing together individuals of various backgrounds with the goal of developing imaginative solutions for environmental issues in the city. The day will begin at 11AM with attendees being divided into small groups (about five to seven people in size). Groups will listen to a short introductory presentation before breaking out to develop a solution to the following question:

What can be done to make Lexington a greener, more sustainable city?

Groups will be given two-and-a-half to three hours to work on drafting a single solution to a particular problem of their choosing in the city. Participants are encouraged to be inventive and collaborative--to combine their unique areas of expertise with those of their fellow group members. After drafting a plan, each group will have the opportunity to give a short five-minute presentation to all of the attendees, outlining their innovative solution to the problem that they have chosen to address. At the end of the event (and with the permission of each group), submissions will be combined into a single report detailing both the purpose of the SustainLex Community Gathering and the proposals drafted during the event. This report will ultimately be submitted to the Lexington-Fayette Urban County Government for consideration in future sustainability measures.

Lunch will be provided during the event.
